Jean Gfeller, born in Switzerland in 1996, lives and works in Paris. A graduate of the Nantes School of Fine Arts, his figurative paintings explore the world of work, the pursuit of success, and the tensions between individual aspirations and social expectations.
Set within enclosed spaces reminiscent of offices, bedrooms, or waiting rooms, his figures appear suspended in ambiguous situations. Drawing on images found online, art-historical references, and personal experience, his compositions examine the forces that shape contemporary behaviour.
Gfeller was an artist-in-residence at the Casa de Velázquez – Académie de France in Madrid in 2024–2025.
