The Burning Part

This exhibition brings together works by Jean Gfeller and Sander Coers, exploring how narratives are constructed and passed on.

In his paintings, Jean Gfeller depicts anonymous figures in familiar settings - corridors, meeting rooms and landscapes - that gradually become strange and unsettling. His works evoke power dynamics, the world of work and the individual’s place within structures that extend beyond them.

Sander Coers, meanwhile, works with photography, archives and memory. By isolating a gaze, a piece of jewellery, an item of clothing or a face in a crowd, he reveals how fragmentary our memories are, and how deeply they are shaped by the images that surround us.

Moving between pictorial fiction and photographic memory, the two artists examine the social, familial and visual frameworks that contribute to the construction of our identities.
